The hard case included in this kit offers durable, low-profile protection for your iPod classic. Two-piece, snap-on construction ensures a snug fit, protecting your device against dust and dings. The interchange back plate makes it compatible with both 80 GB and 160 GB models. The Agent18 company spans back many generations of music device protection, starting with its founder, Wilhelm von Agent, maker of the first glass harp cover back in 1579. More than 300 years later, the family business was passed onto Vesputi Virginina-Agent, an Italian cousin and inventor of the first wooden phonograph cover (Il Protectoro del Fonopodo) back in 1888. Case seems nice overall. I purchased with some hesitation hoping it would fit my 160GB 7th gen Ipod Classic. Actually works fine with the smaller of the two backings. Seems like a nice quality case. Snaps together tight and seems to stay in place. Can’t comment on long term hold up but the other reviewers seem to really like the Agent 18 stuff for overall satisfaction. Oh yeah the see through areas on the back in the picture are just clear areas of the case to show off your apple logo. Sigh. Just wanted to let you know they are not open holes for a clip as they appear in the picture.

Given my druthers, I would have no case, but since it makes sense to protect my iPod, this product is suitably minimalist. I gave it 4 stars because I just got it and I “like it.” However, in fairness, I have nothing to compare it with except the luxurious case (with no access to controls or visible display) that came with my $499 3d generation 40G iPod. The Agent 18 comes w/ 2 back covers: one for use with 80G or 120G iPods, the other for 160G iPods. However, the 80/120G cover (but not the 160G cover) fits just right on my new 160G iPod (leading me to believe that the latest 160G is no longer thicker than the 80/120G units).

I have tried multiple clear cases for my most recent iPod (for instance, the griffin iClear), but none of them were nearly as durable as the good old Agent 18 case. I’ve had an agent18 since my 4th generation ipod, and it always held up extremely well to impact. This case is no exception. At first, I couldn’t find it at the Apple store, so I purchased 2 other clear cases from there, but both of them cracked on relatively slight impacts. This one must be a stronger polycarbonate, because it hasn’t cracked yet and its been dropped significantly harder.

This was the first (and only) case I used when I bought my 5G iPod in 2005, so when I recently purchased my new iPod Classic (120GB), I immediately wanted to get a new Agent18 case for it. (I tried a thinner, “skin”-type case, but I still prefer this one.)

The case itself is very light, so it pretty much adds no weight to the iPod. It’s about as form-fitting as possible, so it also adds only a little bulk. There are openings at the top for the hold switch and the headphone jack, and the bottom is completely open for charging and I assume for compatibility with other peripheral devices, such as docking stations. The click wheel is also exposed, which makes it much easier to use than cases that cover the wheel.

The case itself is not completely clear, but has more of a matte finish. The slight downside to this is that you don’t clearly see the color of the iPod, but the upside is that there is no glare. The plastic that covers the screen is perfectly clear, so it makes viewing the screen the same as if there were no cover.

Also, you will receive two different backs for the case, one which is compatible with the 80/120GB iPods (they are the same thickness) and one which is compatible with the 160GB (somewhat thicker). I don’t really understand the point of this, since most people will only have one iPod. And even if you have two, you would still need an additional front half of the case (which it does not come with).

One small issue I’ve noticed with the 6G case (that I have never noticed with my 5G case) is that when I hold the iPod in one hand and press the buttons, I seem to feel a slight movement of the iPod, as if it’s not in there as tightly as it could be. I’m not sure about this, but I’ve noticed it on two separate 6G cases, so perhaps it’s real. This may be related to the fact that the lower portion of the front piece seems to be bowed outward (away from the iPod) slightly, allowing you enough room to press it back down toward the iPod. This was not so with my previous case, but I’ve noticed it with both of these new ones.

Finally, because of the somewhat large openings (mainly the open bottom), dust has a tendency to get into the case after a while. But perhaps this is normal for most cases anyway. Removing your iPod and cleaning it once a month isn’t such a bad idea anyway.

Neither of these issues are really problems and I highly recommend this case if you are looking for a hard case.

Side note: It’s possible the above issue may be because Agent18 is shipping the G5 cases, even for the iPod Classic.
